A BRIEF ABOUT BHAVANA

Bhavana is a very talented girl with great dedication towards her goals. She joined the E-cell last month and since then, she has participated in many seminars, projects, and programs. She completed three projects and internships at Centre for Nanotechnology (CNT), BHEL R&D.  Process Engineering and Technology Transfer Division, IICT. She takes up projects with great enthusiasm. She also Secured 3rd place by demonstrating the production of silica from rice husk at college level SRUJANA FEST. This is an achievement which has inspired many students. She is also learning process simulation in AVEVA PRO/II and Microsoft Office (word, power point, excel). She has attended many seminars in college and outside the college premises After getting into E-Cell she had many opportunities like working  with AMC SOLUTION and self learning (making subject related videos). She is also the part of “GREEN HOUSE”. She has participated in wealth out of waste program and made a cycle pen/pencil stand using waste newspapers. She attended many conferences like (RACE), webinars and national quiz programs. She has also attended talks with great persons like – Ulhas Parlikar sir on his experiences in Industrial Symbiosis for circular economy, installation of PRO/II by Surya Karla, interactive session with Miss Teen Colorado – Yasaswini Uppalapati and design of flow meter by Akula Rushikesh

projects

Production of biodegradable plastic

Project 1: Production of Bio-degradable plastic from banana peel.

Worked under the guidance of Mrs. Krishna Veni at JNGP College. Plastic waste is one of the worst forms of trash because it takes so long to degrade, thus over flowing our landfills and polluting our water bodies. So, Bhavana’s team decided to make a bio-plastic made with natural materials (here we used banana peel instead we can use potato peel, left over rice) and test its resistance, the main aim was to open up the possibilities for replacing some of the non degradable plastic with the present bio-plastic obtained from domestic waste.

Project 2: Preparation of macro-porous silicon rubber for noise reduction of electrical equipment.

A team consisting of 3 members, worked under the guidance of Dr. S.Raghunanda sir (Lab manager at BHEL R&D).Their aim was to develop a passive sound absorbing porous polymer foam with nano or macro fillers to reduce sound > 1000 Hz and established a scalable and reliable process of preparing polymer foams from silicone rubber using environmental friendly porogens i.e., water, ethanol and mineral oil.

Project 3: Effect of catalyst loading on Esterification reaction using Heterogeneous catalyst.

A team of two members, worked under the guidance of  Dr.K.YAMUNA RANI (Senior Principal Scientist,IICT).The main aim of the work was to study the influence of catalyst loading on the conversion of acrylic acid. Experiments were carried out in a batch reactor at a temperature of 80°C, with an acid to alcohol molar ratio of 1. Catalyst loading was varied from 1- 2.5 wt. % (based on the total weight of feed). It has been observed that, with increase in catalyst loading rate of reaction increases.

Project 4: Learning process simulation software AVEVA PRO/II.

It is steady state process simulator for process design and operational analysis for process engineers in the chemical , petroleum, natural gas, solids processing, and polymer industries.

internships

Centre for Nanotechnology (CNT),BHEL R&D

To develop a passive sound absorbing porous polymer foam with nano or macro fillers to reduce sound > 1000 Hz.Optimized polymer foam properties i.e., density, porosity etc., for sound absorption > 50 Hz.

Process Engineering and Technology Transfer Division,IICT

To perform the esterification of acrylic acid and n-butanol, using heterogeneous pTSA catalyst. For maintaining required temperature, the reactor is equipped with the jacketed containing thermal fluid, which is connected to thermostat, acrylic acid is separately heated up to 80°C. During the reaction, samples are collected. The withdrawn samples of the reaction mixture are titrated with the methanoic NaOH (base) to measure the concentration of acrylic acid.

testimonials

Bhavana is my junior from diploma itself, she is very active and she will complete the task what ever assigned to her perfectly in given time.

She is very talented, great friend, always smiling and down to earth person. It didn't take much time for us to be friends, you know sometimes person choose to be there in their comfort zone but you will never feel that while talking with her.
